The Flint Hills Region is a beautiful place to walk, jog and run.
Visitors and locals can find a number of running trails available to
them. This page lists maps of area routes, submitted by runners. If
you've got a favorite course and can send us a map, we'll be happy
to post it here, as well!
MANHATTAN
-
Colbert
Hills Drive. A hilly 6.5-miles or so, bordering the
beautiful Colbert Hills Golf Course.
- "Gateway".
British writer Geoff Ryman calls the area just east of
Manhattan's K Hill "The
Gate". The passage between K Hill and Bluemont Hill is the
narrowest passage through which the Kansas River flows.
Manhattan's downtown is actually the gateway to the upper Kansas
River Valley. This course is about 6 miles long, with some
challenging ascents.
- Manhattan High
School to K-State, Loop Courses. A run "out on the
town". Options for 4, 5, 6 or 7 mile loops. Remember to watch
for traffic.
-
Anderson-Amherst (Out-and-Back). Take your pick of 3, 4,
5 or 6 miles, beginning on the flat Linear Park Trail, but soon
taking on the challenging Amherst ascents.
- Bluemont
Ascents. Several challenging ascents through Manhattan
neighborhoods. 6 miles
- Park to
Park: Cico to Anneberg Loop. Rolling hills leading to
Anneberg Trail. 5 miles
- Manhattan High
School to Stagg Hill (out and back course). Options for
4, 5 or 6 miles. Nice, safe neighborhood run.
- The Konza
Prairie. Lose yourself on this rugged but scenic course.
2.8, 4.7 or 6.1 mile loops.
-
Northeast
Community Park/Linear Trail. An out-and-back course
along the Big Blue River. We've marked 6 miles, but you can do
more or less. Very flat.
-
Washington/Marlatt
Memorial Run. The easy, flat Hudson Trail leads to a
more challenging and hilly course, including the "Top of the
World" city overlook. About 6 miles.
