RESOURCES FOR RACE DIRECTORS

LIABILITY INSURANCE

One of the very first priorities you must take care of when planning an event is to acquire liability insurance. This will protect you in case of unforeseen circumstances or harm suffered by participants. Liability insurance should cover race officials, sponsors, volunteers and participants.

Here's some resources available to provide liability insurance:

Road Runners Club of America -- America's largest road running organization, the RRCA offers liability insurance to its members and for individual events. The fee  includes general liability, and Directors and Officers Insurance. This information and more is available at http://www.rrca.org/clubs/documents/newmemberpkg.pdf

USA Track and Field -- By sanctioning your event with USATF, you not only receive liability coverage, but also the prestige of associating your event with "America's Track and Field Team." The cost of coverage varies depending on the size of your event. See more at http://www.usatf.org/events/sanctions/.

Manhattan Cross Country Club -- Through its membership with the Road Runners Club of America, the Manhattan Cross Country Club may agree to include an event in its listing of sponsored races. This would provide liability insurance for the event. The cost is $75 in the form of a donation to the Manhattan Cross Country Club. Typically, we can only help you if you know months in advance of your event; we submit our listing of sponsored races to RRCA in January of each year. We must be a sponsor of the event, and we must be directly involved in directing your event. To inquire about availability of this program, send e-mail to melgares@LetsGoRun.com.
